Rural Champions recognized at the 2024 FREDA Summit
The 2024 Florida Rural Economic Development Association (FREDA) Summit, held at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, showcased the power of collaboration and leadership in driving economic growth for Florida’s rural communities. Among the highlights of the event was the Legislative Awards luncheon, where five outstanding state leaders were recognized with the prestigious Rural Champions Awards for their unwavering commitment to supporting rural economic growth.
The Rural Champion Awards honored Senate President Ben Albritton, Representative Shane Abbott, Senator Jennifer Bradley, Senator Corey Simon, and Representative Kaylee Tuck. Each one was celebrated for their visionary efforts to ensure that Florida’s rural areas receive essential resources and legislative support addressing challenges such as infrastructure, workforce readiness, and economic diversification.
Suwannee County Economic Development Director, Jimmy Norris had the honor of presenting the award to Senator Corey Simon recognizing his leadership in rural regions. He was a vital part of helping the entire region recover from the effects of the recent hurricanes. Senator Simon’s leadership has been instrumental in advocating for rural infrastructure improvements, community revitalization, and job creation.
The FREDA Summit is an annual conference that connects policymakers, business leaders, and community advocates to develop innovative solutions for rural development. Suwannee County is proud to participate in these efforts and remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that drive responsible growth and a better life for all residents.
